I Struggle to Learn—But Is Reading the Real Problem?

You’re working hard. You’re reading the content. You’re highlighting, making notes. But by the end of it all… you remember nothing. It’s like the info just doesn’t “stick.”

You start thinking: “I’m just bad at studying.”
But what if the real problem isn’t how you study —but how you read?

Many high schoolers don’t realise they’re struggling with reading comprehension. They can pronounce words. They can follow a sentence. But they don’t truly understand what they’re reading—and it affects every subject.

Signs it’s a reading issue (not a learning one):

  • You read slowly, even when you try not to.

  • You re-read the same paragraph over and over.

  • You “study” for hours but can’t explain anything in your own words.

  • You memorise facts but can’t connect ideas.

  • You freeze when asked to write a proper test answer.

This isn’t a concentration issue. It’s a reading processing gap.

So what can you do?

1. Get your reading level tested.

Don’t guess—get clarity. A Stimulus Maksima! reading assessment will show if you’re reading at your age level, and exactly where your weak spots are.

2. Focus on comprehension, not speed.

Reading faster doesn’t help if you don’t understand. Ask questions while reading. Rephrase what you read in your own words.

3. Use visuals.

Mind maps, colour coding, and diagrams help you see the connections between ideas.

4. Read + listen.

Use audiobooks alongside your textbooks. It helps with rhythm, focus, and retention.

You can’t fix what you don’t know is broken.
But once you realise reading is the issue—you can fix it.

Don’t just work harder. Work smarter. Start at the root.
